Writer and photographer Alan Crandall submitted the following guest blog:

I attend lots of concerts. I have watched Los Lobos tear it up at the Denver Botanical Gardens while picnickers casually sipped wine and feasted on sushi. I have marveled as Mavis Staple’s soulful songs filled the Boulder Theatre joining the audience in quiet amazement. I have witnessed the Ramones inspired mosh pits and the Scorpions stimulated head banging.

With my wide variety of musical taste and enjoyment of live music, I have witnessed just about every form of concert participation.

Rarely have I seen the type of exuberance that Cornmeal brings to the stage. The jam grass stylings of Smooth Money Gesture and Good Gravy so warmed up the festive crowd at Saturday’s Fox Theatre show that, by the time Cornmeal took the stage, fans were jumping, spinning, bobbing and weaving with an exhilaration I have seldom seen in a venue of that size.

Especially towards the front of the stage the CornStalkers were moving with such flare as to have the band smiling at their seemingly easy ability to work the crowd. Only adding to the excitement was the performing of fan favorites like the Grateful Dead tune Sugaree.

The band had one more surprise for the audience Saturday. Before the encore, bassist Chris Gangi announced that the band was added to this year’s three day NedFest, happening August in Nederland. The band previously announced their participation in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, so if you missed the show at the Fox, look for more Colorado Cornmeal this summer.
